It is my intent to fill the school libraries with books and incentivize reading. Our kids spend far too much time on electronic devices, mainly on social media or gaming, and are falling behind in literacy as well as lacking the intellectual stimulation which comes from reading. Powerful literary works which shaped my generation, and countless before, are unknown to our children. We must expose them to a love of reading and provide them with books that will stimulate their minds. Works such as The Diary of a Young Girl, The Scarlet Letter, Animal Farm, 1984, and The Catcher in the Rye were pivotal in my own education. I intend to make sure all Broward County Public Schools contain literary classics such as these, as well as new and exciting educational books which have been published in recent years.
